The April 2016 exercise in conjunction with Sea-pt and Limerick County Council took place in Ballyconnel, Limerick.

The scenario involved an oil transporting truck getting damaged on the road beside the river. Local emergency response teams dealt with the potential danger to human life and sealed off the area.

The most immediate risk to wildlife involved the resident nesting mute swans. The desktop exercise looked at the challenges of such an incident.

Dr Steve Newton (Birdwatch Ireland)  along with OWRN volunteers catch, ring and catalogue local muted swans as part of the exercise.
