In 2013, OWRN brought together a group of volunteers from Birdwatch Ireland, National Parks & Wildlife Services, Inland Fisheries Ireland and interested parties to Kilkee to take part in Irelands largest Oil Spill Response Exercise hosted in 2013 by Clare County Council.

The scenario involved a 43,000 tonne container ship which was fully laden. She had suffered hull damage during a storm west of Kerry head and had sought shelter in Shannon estuary. The exercise involved a multi agency response lead by Sea-pt,  the Irish Coast Guard and Netmar.
