Ireland gets its first group of trained responder's for oiled wildlife
November 2011
Sponsored by Sea-pt, training was supplied by Sea Alarm and OWRN. These volunteers learned the basic response to oiled birds in an effort to maximise their survival both during the process and also later in the wild, post release. The wildlife response during the first few days of a spill are vital. How birds are dealt with in terms of provision of heat, fluids, surfaces, ventilation and a reduced stress environment can be the difference between success and failure in efforts to rehabilitate them. There is no time to loose.
