The OWRN conducts training sessions throughout the year in collaboration with Sea-pt in Limerick, Sea Alarm in Belgium, The Irish Coast Gaurd and local Irish County Councils.

In 2011, Sea-pt supplied the first wildlife response equipment after an exercise in Limerick. Since then, the OWRN has been involved in training exercises in Galway, Kerry, Clare and Dublin.

In 2015, Sea Alarm visited Ireland to provided training for OWRNs first group of initial responders on the East coast. The training was sponsored by the Irish Coast Guard who provided their Howth station for the day.

Training of groups of first responders around the country is now in planning.
